One of my most beautiful lenses is the Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 USM Macro Lens.
It works like a dream, smooth and quiet and you can even see its quality in the photos it takes. But we can’t all fit one on our Christmas lists!
I recently bought some filters – I bought 7 even though I just wanted the one, polarising filter (which I forgot to take with me!) The set came with 4 ‘magnifying’ filters. 1x, 2x, 4x and 10x!
I put them all on my 18-55mm kit lens and straight away its *almost* the same magnification as the 60mm!
Top Filters and bottom 60mm.
Clearly the 60mm is much sharper and the image quality is much better – you can blame that on the 18-55mm and its awful build quality.
But you can make a cheap macro lens (none of that reverse lens dust on sensor whatsamajig) for £7 as opposed to £400!
