I found this via the wonderful Gala Darling, I think its so fantastic that I had to repost it!

Recently, in a large city in Australia, a poster featuring a young, thin and tan woman appeared in the window of a gym. It said, “This summer, do you want to be a mermaid or a whale?”

A middle-aged woman, whose physical characteristics did not match those of the woman on the poster, responded publicly to the question posed by the gym.

To Whom It May Concern,

Whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, sea lions, curious humans.) They have an active sex life, get pregnant and have adorable baby whales. They have a wonderful time with dolphins stuffing themselves with shrimp. They play and swim in the seas, seeing wonderful places like Patagonia, the Bering Sea and the coral reefs of Polynesia.

Whales are wonderful singers and have even recorded CDs. They are incredible creatures and virtually have no predators other than humans.

They are loved, protected and admired by almost everyone in the world.

Mermaids don’t exist.

If they did exist, they would be lining up outside the offices of Argentinean psychoanalysts due to identity crisis. Fish or human? They don’t have a sex life because they kill men who get close to them, not to mention how could they have sex? Just look at them… where is IT?

Therefore, they don’t have kids either.

Not to mention, who wants to get close to a girl who smells like a fish store?

The choice is perfectly clear to me: I want to be a whale.

P.S. We are in an age when media puts into our heads the idea that only skinny people are beautiful, but I prefer to enjoy an ice cream with my kids, a good dinner with a man who makes me shiver, and a piece of chocolate with my friends.

With time, we gain weight because we accumulate so much information and wisdom in our heads that when there is no more room, it distributes out to the rest of our bodies. So we aren’t heavy, we are enormously cultured, educated and happy.

Beginning today, when I look at my butt in the mirror I will think, “Good grief, look how smart I am!”

Book 2 for my Summer Reading Challenge has arrived!

I just have to finish reading Swiss Family Robinson and I’ll make a start on this! Its completely not my usual style so I may hate it. We’ll see!

A couple of nights ago I came home from work and was greeted by this lovely sight.

Oh how excited I was. I’d only ever heard my frogs sing a few times before and I thought horay frogspawn – tadpoles and baby frogs!
I was more excited when I though aha I can set up a new tank. (I love new tanks!) and that’s what I did. I went to pets at home and bought some sand.

I got out the hose pipe and rinsed and rinsed and rinsed until the sand was clear enough.

Then I repositioned the 17l tank and put the new tank in its place. (which isn’t the place in the photo!)

I bought this tank from a lovely lady on Fish Forums. She even gave me two baby bristlenoses. The netting is to stop the cats getting in

Now a clever trick for how to fill up a fish tank without clouding the water (much).

• Dunk all your sand into the tank.
• Place a plastic bag over the sand
• Place a big glass bowl on top of the plastic bag
• Begin filling

This way you can fill it up quickly and vigorously without the sand clouding a great deal!

I used mature filter medium and water from my 6m/o tank and let it cycle for a few days before adding frogs.
I have a Mental Test Kit for monitoring the tank and its doing very well so far! Obv have to make a few more water changes than usual but I’m keeping an eye on it!

A week later, I added frogs. (and a bristlenose)

Unfortunately all this new space has gone to their heads because their stupider than ever! Everynight this week they’ve been trying out new positions but still no frogspawn. God knows the males are singing enough for that poor female. I’ll be getting a few more frogs soon

This one is my favorite though! Male, Male, Female!

I hate driving! So whenever Greg has a car available to him, which is infrequent at best we make the most of it. The best/worst thing about this car is the fact that you get a lot of attention when your driving around in it. Which if your into talking about cars and having people staring at you is great! Not so great for me though. Thank fully the passenger seat is broken so I can sink right down past the dashboard to avoid people!

We popped into Sandwich on Sunday, initially to go to my favorite tea room, ‘Sandwich Tea Rooms’ but they were closed so we went to the Crispinn instead.

I’ve wanted African Clawed Frogs for ages! I started off with African Dwarf Frogs because they’re cute and silly and don’t grow up and eat the other fish in the tank! I’m wanting to set up a species only tank but I just can’t decide whose going to live in it!

The clawed frogs start off all cute and funny and innocent:

Then they turn into these silly looking things!

But they’re silly expressions would put a smile on my face every day!!

p.s I probably wouldn’t get albinos.
