Back from Bahrain

I’m back from Bahrain and there’s about 1000 things I’d rather do that edit this lot!

ugh

I don’t know what it is but I just can’t make these photos look…interesting! There’s only so many photos of oil pipes and gas lines you can show to people. (That number being about 1, for those curious!)

Hopefully though, my new Canon 550D will soon solve that, as I’m expecting every photo to come out of it to be pure photographic genius! I’m so unbelievably excited!

I’m sad too, because its an end of an Era. I bought my faithful 350D in Upper Sixth, making it over 5 years old! Its been to China, Canada, Bahrain, Cyprus and all over England! And with my new mac too everything is changing! (Especially my bank balance!) I knew this day would come. I said from day 1 of my year in industry that I would buy myself a new mac when I finished and I have!

The only worry I have is what do you do with these objects that have been an extension of your being for so long. I’m finding it very difficult to give up my old mac. Neither my mac or my camera are worth a fraction of their original price! If only you could sell things on sentimental value!

Between the Lines Summer Reading Challenge

I found a link to the Summer Reading Challenge via Jem.

Summer Reading Challenge

Its probably a bit too late for me to lounge around the Pool in Bahrain and read. I’m in Bahrain at the moment and in fact its far too hot to sit outside and read, the temperature is about 45c most days!

However I’m looking for another holiday for myself and Greg to go on together so I shall definitely need something to read on that trip as finding a book for this holiday was very unsuccessful! Being a creative person I judge a book by its cover; fonts, photoshop work, the lot!

Heres what I have chosen:
The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown
Bryant & May on the Loose by Christopher Fowler
Second Hand Heart by Catherine Ryan Hyde
E Squared by Matt Beaumont

They’re all different genres that I think I will like – I agonised for ages! I take after my mother who swears she will never read a book recommended by a girly magazine like Glamour or Good Housekeeping!! I tend to agree with her logic judging by the lack of actual things to read in magazines nowadays!

Why not comment on the entry yourself and try your hand at a book review! (This time you wont get red pen all over it!)

Results are in!

After all my agonising, worrying, tears and sleepless nights (I’m not kidding!) I finally have the results that sum up the past four years of my life!

First Class Honours said the board!

First!

I had walked down the corridor and said to Mike “Any sign of them?” He had motioned towards a man in the corner of my eye who I’d never seen before, dressed in a suit and who was now struggling to pin three pieces of paper to the board. I went back to the group and said, “I think the results are going up!”

They all rushed ahead and I lingered for a moment, although I don’t remember why! then, I thought, fuck it, I want to know!

I got there just as they had all read the results, Emily gave me a thumbs up as I went to look at the board, I thought it was because the results were up not because of what I was about to read!

Wow, I thought, thinking how strange it was they they’d placed us in our visual communication groups! Without realising what anyone else had I turned to Greg who waited for me to squeak “First!” He hugged me! Then I hugged Emily and we had a little celebratory dance, which would be extended upon later where nobody else could see!

I’m thoroughly relieved its over! I couldn’t have waited any longer for the results, else I might have gone a little mad!

Unfortunately I celebrated a little too hard yesterday and I’m feeling it this morning! Along with my cold that is getting steadily worse!

I’m now a first class, hungover, cold infected, graduand packing for Bahrain! Whats the betting I’ll forget something!

Nail Varnish

Nail Varnish

Do you remember me swooning over these a few posts ago? I relented and bought the peach colour, which was a lot brighter than I expected! Although I don’t really know what I expected!

I had resigned to the fact that I would only be able to afford one colour, until I returned to Canterbury, and went to ASDA, that horrible place you can’t live without once you’ve had one near you! (What with my Tesco’s dress I’m showing myself up to be one very discerning lady!) They have their own brand of nail polishes, cheap at only £1 each and they had all the colours I wanted and more! I added pastel blue, green and purple to my other grey colour! Now I feel complete!

Macrame

Theres a shop in Weybridge with a very dubious name, White Stuff. Its a more expensive version of FatFace which lives on the other side of the road. They do all that hippie/surf style stuff. Anyway, I didn’t try on any clothes but I did find this:

mmm

A sun spot bracelet. I loved it! Unfortunately I’m not only incredibly poor at the moment but I’m also too cheap to spend £10 on something made of string and beads!

I knew I’d seen the style before and after a few odd Google queries I found Hemp Jewelry or Macramé. I’ve been trying the technique out this afternoon, its easy to do but difficult to make look good! It just reminds me of primary school when friendship bracelets were all the rage!

Anyway, try this out with some bits of twine you have hanging about!

A quick introduction – following the instructions is hard!

This is the best video, she is a really good teacher and has such a nice voice! Bear with her in the beginning though! :P

heh, I thought I could do this one! Only for the brave!

Prettiest Things #1

pretty

I’ve been doing lots of shopping recently! Despite my lack of funds. Before I go to Bahrain I’m definitely splashing out on some of these things! :)
All from or sold in River Island.

modelsown
Amazing nail colours from Models Own. I’ve been tempted to buy these so often but I always stop myself and then regret it later. I will get at least the pastel orange before I go away though. It will go well with my Grey nail varnish!

hat
This is how I like my bugs, made of metal and not alive! (Unlike the one in my room last night! *shudders* ) and the hat well I tried it on the other day in dark brown, its so soft and cute! Surely it should have been on sale seeing as its summer :(

Speaking of sales I got the deal of a lifetime the other day. A perfect fitting pair of cords with a belt, for £3! Score! I also now have not one but two pairs of shorts! I’ve never found a pair I could wear that covered enough leg for me to be comfortable before! I’m nearly set for Bahrain!

Rodney II

I finally did it. Two years of talking and planning it I bought myself a new Mac :D

I saved up my whole year in industry specifically to buy myself a new mac. Although my old one has plenty of life still in it, I did feel it was time for a new one. Not least because I only had to charge it up once yesterday and I can finally go around the house without worrying about finding a socket for the charger! (I had a brand new battery in my old one which didn’t last long at all)

Another great thing about this new mac is the fans don’t randomly start going off for no reason! wahay! And I don’t need to use my stand with it because its not burning my legs!

So before the mac porn, I’ll tell you a little about the specs!

Specs
Yes, top spec (except for the ram!) and I went for the 15″ and I do not regret it this time! The Screen feels so big compared to my old one and for those wondering about the screen. I went for glossy. I wanted hi-res but they didn’t have any in stock. I could barely see the difference though, the high res is slightly crisper and ‘near’ hd but it matters not to me! The glossy is that much more brighter and clearer than the matte and for someone who likes to pretend they’re a photographer/designer that means better and more accurate colours. (of course none of that matters if your work is viewed on a pc :P !)

So without further ado, pic spam!

Even the little icon is different! :D
